The RTITB has launched a manual handling training programme, aimed at reducing injuries in the workplace.
All RTITB courses are delivered to a set guide and recorded centrally on the RTITB database, providing records of training content, dates and who has been trained. This way, businesses can ensure they comply with legislation according to L23 Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992.
According to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), incorrect manual handling is the most common cause of workplace injury, leading to 909,000 working days lost in 2013/14.
Laura Nelson, RTITB managing director, said: “This is a huge problem, costing our industry immeasurable sums of money each year and putting workers at unnecessary risk. Manual handling training is a legal requirement, but we believe the logistics sector presents specific risks that generic manual handling courses don’t adequately address.”
