TNT has signed a five-year business process outsourcing contract with Accenture, that will see Accenture manage transactional activities related to finance and accounting, procurement and data entry for TNT.
The Amsterdam-based express carrier agreed a takeover by FedEx in April. Last week FedEx submitted the required filing to the European Commission to obtain regulatory clearance for the deal, which is expected by completed in the first half of next year.
The BPO contract is designed to allow TNT to consolidate and standardise back office operations, which are now carried out at local level. The transition will take place in stages between 2015 and the end of 2017.
It is a step towards establishing Global Business Service as part of the TNT Outlook strategy. GBS is expected to deliver annual cost savings of between €100 and €150 million from 2018, with the first savings in 2016.
“Accenture’s BPO services will allow TNT to focus on what we do best: delivering our customers’ express parcels and pallets, while enhancing our cost-efficiency and flexibility,” said CFO Maarten de Vries.
