Emma Bourne OBE, director for circular economy at the UK Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (Defra), will deliver a session titled The Circular Economy Opportunity at Sustainable Supply Chain Exhibition 2025.
The event takes place on 25-26 March at the NEC Birmingham and will be co-located with the 10th annual IntraLogisteX and Robotics and Automation exhibition.
Bourne, who has nearly 20 years of experience in the Civil Service, leads Defra’s circular economy portfolio, overseeing major reforms in the UK’s packaging sector and the development of a long-term circular economy strategy.
Her extensive career includes key roles in social and economic policy, organisational change, and international trade negotiations, including serving as the UK government’s lead negotiator on agrifood for the Windsor Framework.
Bourne’s session will explore the economic, environmental, and social case for transitioning from the current linear ‘take, make, use, throw’ model to a circular economy.
She will outline the government’s work to date and provide insights into plans for a forthcoming circular economy strategy.
Additionally, the session will highlight opportunities for businesses to contribute to and shape the strategy’s implementation.
The Sustainable Supply Chain Exhibition will feature a diverse conference programme addressing key challenges in supply chain sustainability, including decarbonisation, circular economy practices, and risk mitigation.
In total, more than 200 exhibitors and 10,000 attendees are expected to participate in this year’s three co-located exhibitions, representing a wide range of industries, including manufacturing, logistics, retail, e-commerce, automotive, aerospace, and technology.
Attendees will gain valuable insights into integrating sustainable strategies into their operations to meet growing demands for environmental responsibility.
