UPS has launched a four-week pilot trial of an electrically supported cargo bike for the delivery and pick-up of packages in downtown Basel (Switzerland).
With a 1.5 cubic metre capacity, the 250W battery-supported tricycle can carry loads of up to 150kg. UPS has already begun using battery-aided cargo bikes in Hamburg (Germany).
Philip Healey, marketing manager, UPS Switzerland, said: “By using cargo bikes in a targeted manner, UPS aims to reduce inner-city congestion, noise and emissions.”
The trial forms part of a global UPS strategy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
