Usdaw has called for talks with Lidl over plans to close the Lutterworth distribution centre in Leicestershire and relocate to Peterborough.
Lidl exchanged contracts on a 34-acre site in Peterborough in October 2017. It plans to build a 754,000 sq ft regional distribution centre.
The retailer opened a DC in Doncaster in January – its 13th in the UK. It currently has plans for four more: Leeds, Bolton, Luton in addition to Peterborough.
Usdaw’s national officer Mark Todd said staff were devastated by Lidl’s plans to move their jobs 50 miles down the road. “To ensure they are treated with dignity and respect the company must engage with Usdaw, the trade union for Lidl staff.”
