Sunderland City Council is pushing ahead with plans for an Ultra Low Carbon Vehicle Enterprise Zone that would include a 34,357 sq m warehouse – understood to be for Vantec, which provides third party logistics services to Nissan.
A planning application has been submitted for the warehouse at Turbine Park, which is close to an existing Vantec facility as well as the Nissan car factory.
Vantec was identified as the planning applicant by the Sunderland Echo, which said that if given the go-ahead the new facility could create 200 new jobs in the area.
The Hillthorn Farm site is part of an enterprise zone focusing on the development of low-carbon technologies.
A meeting of Sunderland’s council cabinet just before Christmas authorised the deputy chief executive to “to take all necessary action to bring forward delivery of this key economic development site”.
The aim is for the new warehouse facility to be complete and operational no later than December 2015.
