Freight on Rail has welcomed the decision by Bexley Council to give planning approval to a new rail freight interchange at Howbury Park in southeast London.
Howbury Park is a 149-acre rail connected warehouse scheme being developed by Roxhill.
The site is allocated in the London Plan and a new planning application for the scheme – to update and revise the permission granted in 2007 – was made in 2015.
Philippa Edmunds, freight on rail manager said: “Howbury Park will allow consumer goods to be transported to London by rail and then transferred into low emissions vehicles for final deliveries across the capital. Interchanges like Howbury enable rail freight to compete with lorries because they reduce the transhipment costs between the modes.”
