XPO Logistics is submitted plans for a 300,000ft2 plus warehouse at Newarthill in Lanarkshire adjacent to its existing facility.
The £40 million logistics centre will be built on a 43.95-acre site where XPO has control. In the design and access statement to North Lanarkshire Council, it said that “development on this site, will enable synergies with the existing XPO transport hub, meet business growth, attract inward investment to North Lanarkshire, and create at least 300 new jobs.
“In addition, there is a lack of supply in terms of existing property, both in terms of the scale, and the operational design in the market to meet XPOs distribution requirements.
“There is an acute shortage of warehouse space over 100,000ft2 along M8 corridor, and no space in the 200,000ft2 to 300,000ft2 range.”
The new facility would provide 290,000ft2 of warehouse space with 23,000ft2 offices. There will be 60 dock and 6 level access doors with 145 trailer bays.
Around a third of the development site will be occupied by the warehousing facilities with the remaining land reserved for biodiversity enhancement measures with parkland and landscaping as well as improved public access.
