Last mile provider YEEP! has launched a parcel delivery locker network in the UK which will be battery-powered.
The company has said that the lockers will be available to national and international carriers, and available in various London boroughs, and railway networks.
There are 400 lockers anticipated to be installed this year and plans for 1,000 by Q2 2024, and further plans for 10,000 across the rest of the UK in the future.
The lockers offer 24/7 pickup and drop offs, which will encourage the reduction of delivery vehicles.
According to the World Economic Forum, The Future of the Last Mile Ecosystem, last mile deliveries account for the largest share of carbon emissions for e-commerce and, “without any intervention, the number of delivery vehicles in the top 100 cities globally will increase by 36% until 2030 resulting in a 32% rise in emissions and 21% rise in congestion.”
Noël Shapton, CEO and founding Director at YEEP! said: “Our targets, together with our collaborative and partnership approach, will foster a sense of community and accessibility, and we forecast the increased adoption of lockers over home deliveries, which will help [to reduce harm to the planet].
