Yusen Logistics has created a series of dedicated e-fulfilment centres close to major parcel delivery hubs to offer late cut-of times.
The company made its first step into e-commerce in partnership with one of its oldest customers. A spokesperson said: “After being approached by them to set up a new operation, we now operate an ecommerce pick & pack solution alongside the existing retail operation.”
There are two sites currently operating the same model.
Benjamin Bird, general manager of solution design, said improving service levels had resulted in increased repeat custom and higher end customer conversion rates.
Yusen has developed its own software to optimise the pick route and process based on basket size, product dimension and product weight.
“We’re now looking at further improving our e-fulfilment operations by completely minimising carrier loss,” said Benjamin.
